The spot

Why go here?

The Griffin sits on the corner of Brook Road South and Braemar Road, one of four pubs that famously stood on each corner of Griffin Park, Brentford's home from 1904 until 2020. Long before the stadium was built, the Griffin served as the club's first clubhouse and changing room in 1883, which makes this arguably the most historically important building on any Brentford matchday. It has since doubled as a filming location for the football film Green Street and for Bohemian Rhapsody, and the atmosphere owes a lot to landlords Ralph and Sue who have been behind the bar for more than 13 years.

Restaurant and kitchen hours typically exclude matchdays, so ring the pub before you plan lunch around a game. For non-matchday Sunday roasts, book a table, it fills up quickly with locals.

Why FootballCityTrip recommends it

For a Brentford matchday, The Griffin is the history pick: the club's original clubhouse, one of the last standing corner pubs of Griffin Park, a proper pint of London Pride and one of the best Sunday roasts in west London, all a short walk from the Gtech.
